A better headline for this news story would have used the word “retained”. That’s because, as an almost entirely new coaching staff is put into place at Louisiana Lafayette, at least one position not being replaced — that of the Director of Football Operations. We haven’t done a real statistical analysis on this yet, but anecdotal evidence is pointing to a trend that the Ops position is one that is not always impacted with the typical wholesale staff changes. LAFAYETTE — Longtime director of football operations Troy Wingerter will remain in that position, Louisiana-Lafayette head football coach Billy Napier announced Thursday.
Wingerter spent the last seven seasons as director of football operations, helping the Ragin’ Cajuns to bowl games in five of those seven seasons.
“Troy brings great knowledge and experience of not only the football program, but also the Ragin’ Cajun Nation and the University of Louisiana,” Napier said in a statement from the university. “He will be pivotal for myself and our new staff as we make this transition. He is one of our own with 27 years of investment and pride in this place. I look forward to Troy, Cydra, Holden and Aiden being a part of our team, organization and family.”
