Carly Grenfell is no secret to Drake University athletics. The Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Operations starred for the Bulldogs on the court from 2010-2015. In December of 2016, Grenfell returned to the Bulldogs women’s hoops program as a member of the coaching staff and helped the squad win the Missouri Valley Conference championship and a trip to the NCAA tournament.
We caught up with Carly to ask her a few questions about her new role as a member of the Bulldogs staff.
Name three things that you want to get done in the first two hours of your day: 1) Check/reply to emails. 2) Send the team reminders about upcoming meetings/events/community service. 3) Make a to-do list
Name one go-to resource that helps you with your duties: Calendar reminders on outlook/my phone
If you could go back to your first day on the job and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be? You don’t have to do everything alone – ask for advice!
Name one new thing you want to accomplish this year? Help increase our student attendance at games
As you look at the athletic operations field, what is one area that is growing/changing the most? I think college athletics as a whole is an ever-evolving business from the ways we recruit, the use of social media, the technology for watching/breaking down film, etc. I have only been in this role for 8 months so I am still getting a feel for what is changing from an operations standpoint.
