ON34: Kate Harris, Alabama Softball

For a program that has only been around for just 20 years, Alabama Softball has established itself as an annual national contender, appearing in the College World Series 11 times and winning it all in 2012. Legendary head coach Patrick Murphy likes to surround himself with a great staff who have a similar vision. One of those people he brought on ten years ago is Director of Operations, Kate Harris. Kate is so well thought of among her peers that she is now asked to speak and present at clinic and conferences.

In this episode, Kate discusses growing up in Iowa, playing and coaching at Creighton, her move early on from coaching into operations, what traits she has that makes her a good operations person, her move to Alabama, creating/writing her own script, learning to pace herself, opportunities that have come to her because of the success of the program, the program’s trips to The Netherlands and Japan, and the annual team retreat.

A few of Kate’s primary duties at Alabama:

  • summer camps
  • clinics
  • booster club
  • budget
  • travel
