Big things are happening in Evanston, Illinois and right in the middle of it all is the Director of Football Operations for Northwestern University, Cody Cejda. Cody is from right across the lake from his home state of Michigan, but it appears that he’s found a home in the Chicago area.
In this episode Cody talks about taking a job in the business world right out of school to help pay down student debt, getting his break with NU Football while studying for his MBA at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Business, his advice to young people looking to break into collegiate athletics, working with the budget (perfect for a business guy!), managing the staffing plan, his role as the NFL liaison for NU, developing relationships, helping to raise the national brand of NU Football, the beautiful new Northwestern Football Facility, and his great story about an encounter as a student at Michigan with a Michigan legend.
Cody’s app and website recommendation:
- Teamworks – operations platform for athletic teams and organizations
Cody’s resource recommendations:
- Not a specific book this time, but read books — especially those that are not just about your particular field.
Tim’s Tip of the Day:
- Reevaluate daily. Be ruthless in eliminating inefficiencies.
