ON17: Scott Duval, Auburn Track & Field/Cross Country

This week on Ops Nation, we’re headed to Auburn, Alabama to talk to a long time operations guy at Auburn University, Scott Duval. Scott spent the longest part of his career with the baseball program, but moved over to the Track & Field/Cross Country program a few years ago.

In this episode, Scott talks about growing up in Mobile, Alabama as part of a Crimson Tide family, starting his operations career as a student manager in baseball, working in baseball and basketball at the same time, spending the better part of two decades in baseball at Auburn, jumping into Track & Field with little prior knowledge, all of the people within the program who help with operations, the challenge of managing his time, and trying to maximize the resources he has and resisting the impulse to just throw more resources at a project.

Scott’s recommended app:

  • Teamworks – operations platform for athletic teams and organizations

Scott’s resource recommendation:

  • Lean on and utilize other operations people, both within and outside your school.

Scott’s Tip of the Day:

  • Don’t have tunnel vision. Look at the big picture.
