ON16: Kadero Watson, Wisconsin Football

In this episode of Ops Nation, we head north to Wisconsin to talk to Kadero Watson, Director of Player Development and Assistant Director of Operations for University of Wisconsin Football. Kadero was featured a couple of months ago in one of our Ops Spotlight features. We received such great feedback from that feature that we just had to bring him on the Ops Nation podcast for an interview.

In this episode Kadero talks about playing college football at Bucknell, how a career ending injury his sophomore year caused him to reevaluate his goals, getting his start in video operations, discovering that it wasn’t easy to land that initial football ops position, keeping your career options open, how previous experiences helped him deal with the unexpected, the challenges of trying to maximize his time, having a “servant heart”, and working with Wisconsin DFO T.J. Ingels.

Kadero’s app and website recommendations:

  • Teamworks – operations platform for athletic teams and organizations
  • Jump Forward – recruiting app for iPhone

Kadero’s resource recommendations:

  • Make Your Bed (book) by Admiral William H. McRaven
  • AFCA – American Football Coaches Association

Kadero’s Tip of the Day:

  • To-do list – Make a list at the end of the day or the beginning of the day. Organize and prioritize your list before your day starts. Cross items off your list as you complete them.
