In this episode of Ops Nation, we’re talking Ryan Gaines, Director of Operations for the University of Oklahoma baseball team. In Baseball Ops years, he’s considered one of the real veterans. However, Ryan has still got a whole lot of highway in front of him. And given that the field of Operations is really gaining momentum in college baseball, expect to see more like Ryan very soon.
In this episode Ryan discusses his baseball coaching father, his education as an athletic trainer, what he learned from his brief foray into the field of athletic sales, how there are no two days are the same in the world of operations, the importance of being a good listener, trying to help people be and achieve their best, the ever-changing landscape of college sports, and the future of athletic operations.
Ryan’s recommended apps:
- Teamworks – operations platform for athletic teams and organizations
- Trip Advisor – app and website used to help research restaurants and hotels
- Twitter – it’s a great research tool!
A portion of Ryan’s regular duties:
- Academic liaison
- Home Run Club (boosters)
Ryan’s Tip of the Day:
- “Try to let the coaches focus on the players.”
