SAVANNAH, Ga.-Three weeks into the new job as the deputy athletic director at Georgia Southern, Armstrong State hasn’t faded from Lisa Sweany’s memory.
In the midst of the blue and white, she still sees daily reminders of maroon and gold. Some of them are right down the hall from her new office at Georgia Southern’s Parrish Building on Fair Road
There are 10 employees to be exact, including Sweany, who make up the remnants of Armstrong State athletics. The Savannah institution that was founded in 1935 is currently being absorbed by Georgia Southern in a consolidation, and the ASU athletic department has already made its transition to Statesboro after Pirate athletics ceased at the end of the spring season.
